WQCS Reception May be Weaker for a Few Days in August
New Digital HD Radio Programs Available this Fall
WQCS, 88.9 FM, anticipates replacing our broadcast antenna during the week of August 11-15 and listeners may receive the station at lower than normal power resulting in poor reception for a few days.
WQCS will announce on-air the specific dates depending upon weather conditions. The station will continue to broadcast using a back-up antenna at lower power. The project is expected to take 4-5 days. When completed, the station will return to 100,000 watts of power. WQCS will continue to be heard online at WQCS.org.
WQCS received a grant from the Public Telecommunications Facility Program to replace the current damaged antenna.
The new antenna will also allow WQCS to begin offering additional programming this fall over a new digital-only channel. The current programming will continue to be heard over 88.9 FM on standard analog as well as new digital “HD Radio” receivers.
The new digital channel (88.9-2) will be heard only on digital “HD Radio” receivers, which are now available at many electronic retail outlets. 88.9-2 will give WQCS listeners an opportunity to enjoy additional music and news programs which are not heard on 88.9. |
