On Friday, January 21, 2022, Indian River State College celebrated the Grand Opening of the Veterans Center of Excellence, located on the IRSC Pruitt Campus in Port St. Lucie.

"We owe a debt to our veteran population. These are our American heroes," said Dr. Timothy Moore, IRSC President. "So we set out to provide the very best services to our veteran students than anybody in the United States can provide."

The Grand Opening featured Major General (Ret.) James "Hammer" Hartsell, currently the Executive Director of the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs.

"Veterans want to live in Florida. They want to raise their families here. They want to get a job here," said General Hartsell. "A Veterans Center of Excellence," he said, "...that's why people want to come to Florida, and they are veterans."
