Rangel Guerrero Is the New Public Safety Department Director for St. Lucie County

Guerrero has over 20 years public safety and emergency management experience at the county, state, and federal government levels.

Fort Pierce - Thursday May 5, 2022: Rangel (Ron) Guerrero will join the St. Lucie County Government as the new Public Safety Department Director on May 23.

Guerrero has over 20 years public safety and emergency management experience at the county, state, and federal government levels.

Prior to joining St. Lucie County, Ron served as the Emergency Management Section Manager for Operations for Broward County, where he was responsible for overseeing the County’s response to major emergencies and disasters by managing the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and emergency management field response program.

During his tenure at Broward County, he served as the Operations Section Chief for the COVID-19 response and was responsible for coordinating the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for multiple stakeholders such as first responders and health care facilities throughout the county.

On the federal government level, Ron was a Supervisory Emergency Management Specialist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), in which he provided leadership and direction for disaster field operations as Planning Section Chief, Chief of Staff, Deputy Operations Section Chief and Acting Federal Coordinating Officer (FCO) in over 30 presidentially declared disasters across the United States and its territories. Before joining FEMA, Ron worked for the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and Orange County Government with the Geographic Information System (GIS) team. He also worked as a Probation Officer in Seminole County.

Ron, who is bilingual in English and Spanish, places tremendous value on public safety and a whole community approach to ensure that all the needs of our community are addressed.

He received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a Minor in Sociology from the University of Central Florida.
