St. Lucie County - Monday May 16, 2022: Parents and guardians can help their students “avoid the summer slide” by joining them in St. Lucie County Library System’s Summer Reading Challenge running June 4 through Aug. 6.

This summer’s digital Summer Reading Challenge “Oceans of Possibilities” offers four different categories/age groups for students with chances to win Lego sets, a telescope, Amazon gift cards and more. Adults can earn a $5 gift card to be used at the library’s ongoing book sale. Google and Apple users can install the "Beanstack Tracker" on your phone or tablet and search for "St. Lucie" to sign up to track your reading digitally, earning virtual badges for each hour read. Hard copy reading logs are also available at all St. Lucie County Branch Libraries.

Students can enter by reading the recommended daily time for each division. Suggested times for Pre-K is 10 minutes; grades Kindergarten through 5th grade is 15 minutes; middle school and up is 20 minutes. Students can bring their logs to any library branch to get their free books, passes and drop off your raffle tickets for a chance to win a grand prize. Students can also earn credit for activities like attending a library program; completing a science experiment or visiting a local park or nature preserve.

Adults can join their children and grandchildren by reading at least three selected books in four categories: Mystery, the “Florida Experience,” Historical Fiction and Modern Science Fiction. Read three more books from your chosen category for a total of six and receive a St. Lucie County Library tote bag.

St. Lucie County’s Summer Reading Challenge is sponsored the Friends of the Library, the Children Services Council, the St. Lucie Mets, St. Lucie Reads and St. Lucie County Parks & Recreation.
