Florida Medical Examiners Commission Confirms 72 Deaths from Hurricane Ian, as of Oct. 4

Florida - Tuesday October 04, 2022: As of Tuesday October 4th, the Florida District Medical Examiners Commission (MEC) had confirmed that 72 deaths were caused by Hurricane Ian. The MEC report is based on physical examinations of the victims which in each case concluded that their deaths were storm related.

One Hurricane Ian death has been recorded in Martin County, the first confirmed storm fatality on the Treasure Coast.

The report can be found on the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) website HERE> www.fdle.state.fl.us. The FDLE staffs the Florida Medical Examiners Commission.

The 72 confirmed deaths attributed to Hurricane Ian by the MEC are in the following counties:

* Charlotte – 2

* Collier – 5

* Hardee – 1

* Hendry – 1

* Hillsborough – 1

* Lake – 1

* Lee – 46

* Manatee – 3

* Martin - 1

* Polk – 2

* Sarasota – 4

* Volusia – 5
