IRC Sheriff: Domestic Violence Suspect in Custody After Standoff with Deputies

IRCSO

Indian River County - Tuesday November 1, 2022: Indian River County Deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call in the Florida Ridge area early Sunday after
23-year-old Edgerrin Billie reportedly threatened to kill his live-in girlfriend and three-year-old daughter with a butcher knife.

The woman and her daughter managed to escape and call 911 from a nearby 7-11.

When deputies arrived at the residence, Billie refused to come out and hid inside the home armed with a knife. The IRC Sheriff’s SWAT, Crisis Negotiations Team, and drone unit responded and were able to get Billie out of the home without further incident.

"With no regard for anyone's life but his own, Billie threatened the life of his family and neighbors while he barricaded himself in his home with a weapon," said Sheriff Eric Flowers. "This could have ended with tragedy, but thanks to the brave response of our deputies and detectives, this incident ended with a violent individual in custody."

Billie was booked on the following charges:
- Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon
- Resisting Arrest without Violence

Billie was already on probation following a previous felony conviction.
