Port St. Lucie - Tuesday January 24, 2023: An alert Port St. Lucie resident who snapped a picture of a vehicle fleeing the scene of a crime led to the arrest of two suspects in a purse snatching.

It happened last Friday evening in the parking lot of the Eastport Publix parking lot in Port St. Lucie. The victim was putting grocery bags in her car when a man and a woman snatched her purse from the shopping cart and fled in their vehicle. The victim screamed for help and that got the attention of the alert citizen who took a picture of the vehicle and the license plate (the plate number is redacted in the picture provided).

The couple then traveled to Ft. Pierce and continued their crime spree where the victim’s stolen credit cards were fraudulently used at gas stations and a Publix.

However with the picture of the fleeing vehicle taken by the alert resident, police were able to identify the vehicle location and arrest two suspects for purse snatching.

Apprehend were a juvenile female in Port St. Lucie and charged her with robbery by sudden snatching. A juvenile male was apprehended in Stuart with the assistance of the Martin County Sheriff's Office and charged with robbery by sudden snatching and 6 counts of fraudulent use of a credit card.

Both suspects were taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
