Indian River County - Tuesday February 21, 2023: A 31-year-old man driving a Dodge Charger struck and killed an 83 year-old woman walking across the road in Indian River Shores Saturday.
It happened shortly before 2 p.m. on State Road A1A just a few miles north of the Merrill Barber Bridge.
Florida Highway Patrol reports that the driver of the Charger was traveling north on A1A approaching Amy Ann Lane when the woman, walking east from the west side of the road, "entered (the sedan's) path of travel" in the northbound lane.
"No criminal actions observed at this time," concluded the FHP report.
The identities of the pedestrian and the driver were not released. FHP does not identify anyone involved in crashes it investigates by name, citing Marsy's Law.
