Treasure Coast - Sunday May 16, 2022: On the nights of Sunday May 15th and Monday May 16th North America will witness a total lunar eclipse and it should be visible along the treasure coast, provided the skies are relatively clear.
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the earth comes between the sun and the moon. The moon's color turns a deep red when the earth's shadow covers it.

Unlike a solar eclipse not special eye protection is necessary to see it. The event will last about 3 and a half hours.
