Black Bear Rests in Tree Outside Martin County's Sheriff's Office

Florida Fish and Wildlife Officers were notified and coaxed the bear out of the tree and allowed it to go calmly about its way.

Martin County - Monday June 20, 2022: The Martin County Sheriff's Office reports that an unexpected visitor climbed a tree outside their office on Monterey Road in Stuart on Monday night.

A Florida black bear made its way through the parking area near the investigations division and climbed up the tree to rest for awhile, according to a post on the Martin County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Officers were notified and coaxed the bear out of the tree and allowed it to go calmly about its way.

There has been an increase in bear sightings in the area recently. Bears typically enter residential areas in search of food. To prevent a bear from visiting your neighborhood FWC urges residents to secure their trash cans.
