Indian River County - Wednesday June 22, 2022: A dog scrounging around in the sand near the beach grass line reportedly uncovered what's believed to be a World War II era land mine at Round Island Beach Park Wednesday morning.

Indian River County Sheriff's Deputies and Fire and Rescue were called in and they told beach goes to keep 600 feet away from the device until it could be safely removed.

The Explosive Ordinance Disposal [EOD] team at Patrick Air Force Base was contacted and they came down and retrieved the device without incident. The all clear was sounded before noon.
