Port St. Lucie - Tuesday July 12, 2022: The Port St. Lucie Club Med is being bought by a sports and wellness company which says they will keep the facility open and operate it as both a sports academy and resort.

Altitude International Holdings issued a news release Tuesday stating that once the purchase agreement for the Club Med Sandpiper Bay is finalized at the end of July, they intend "to continue and operate the resort without interim closure." The facility will become Altitude's international headquarters once the sale has been finalized.

The company says it will honor all previously booked reservations from September 6, 2022 forward.

The release quotes Altitude International CEO Greg Breunich as saying that "the present team of Club Med employees are an incredible asset to the property, comprising many years of experience, and soon will have opportunity to transition to working with the Altitude team post-closing."

The resort will continue to operate after Club Med's departure, said Breunich and, "while in operation, it will undergo an extensive renovation to be completed over the next two years. This is an integral part of Altitude International Holdings, Inc. long term developmental plan for the property."

"While it will no longer bear the Club Med name," said Breunich, "we are excited to see the resort develop and thrive as Altitude's worldwide destination headquarters,"

In response to a req2est for comment from WQCS Club Med issued the following statement about the sale:

“Club Med Sandpiper Bay has been a key resort in our portfolio for more than 40 years and we are grateful for the strong relationship the resort has maintained with the local community. The pending sale of the property was not an easy decision. Supporting our employees is a top priority and we are committed to proposing alternative employment opportunities in other worldwide Club Med locations for those who wish to continue their career journey with Club Med.” – Club Med Spokesperson

Altitude International is the owner of the Altitude Academies, a chain of élite sports training facilities, including one that has been in operation for the past 13 years at the Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie.

The release also states that "the repositioning of Club Med Sandpiper Bay will enable the continued growth of the sports academy and hotel" while "maintaining its global destination status and further enhancing offerings that will have a highly favorable economic impact on the local community."
