Participants will tour the ELC campus with native Plant expert Marc Speiss identifying edible and medicinal plants. He will discuss the connection between people and plants and guests will have the opportunity to sample selected species. The walk is $20, and reservations are suggested.

ELC Environmental Educator and Marine Biologist, Shanen Cox, will talk about her experiences working with and studying marine mammals. Learn more about dolphins, killer whales, harbor seals and sea lions as she shares lessons learned from marine life. Bring a brown bag lunch and plan to explore the ELC campus before or after the talk

“Boca Raton Army Air Field and the BRAAF Fire Department” Speaker: Thomas R. Wood
Thomas R. Wood, CFO, FIFireE, and retired Chief of the Boca Raton Fire Department, has spent years researching the Boca Raton Army Air Field and its Fire Department. Wood will share information about the many incidents the BRAAF Fire Department handled including the crash of a B34 Lexington bomber on May 12, 1944—eighty years ago. Nine soldiers lost their lives in the crash. Through Wood’s efforts, a state historical marker commemorating the tragedy was unveiled on FAU’s campus in 2021. 6p Refreshments. 6:30 Speaker starts.
