Fort Pierce - Friday May 20, 2022: This week on in Focus with IRSC Public Media we speak with Kosta Velis, the Co-Founder & Managing Member of the Vero Beach Recovery Center, a recently founded substance abuse treatment facility.

The Center provides evidence-based treatment to individuals suffering from drug and alcohol addiction, as well as providing mental health care that may underlie the addiction. Kosta says that 70% of the drug cases seen at the Center are fentanyl related.

Nationwide, the CDC reports that fentanyl overdoses have become the leading cause of death for adults age 18 to 45. It is a drug that is 100-times more powerful than heroin. It’s being laced into every-thing from opioid pills, to cocaine, and marijuana and its flooding across the southern. The Vero Beach Recovery Center is doing what it can to treat those addicted to it and help them recover.

We are devoting the entire program this week to the fentanyl crisis, and its impact on our region.
