Fort Pierce - Friday June 24, 2022 - This week on In Focus with IRSC Public Media, we hear about the preservation of environmentally important land and water resources in Indian River County. That’s what the Indian River Land Trust is all about. It has been able to protect 12-hundred acres, and 12 miles of land, along the shores of the Indian River Lagoon.

We’ll talk about those preservation efforts with Trust Executive Director Ken Grudens, and Marketing and Philanthropy Director Melissa DePriest. Learn more at their website at: https://www.irlt.org/.

Then we speak with Mary Sirmons, the President of Survivors of Murdered Victims Support Group. Her organization helps the victims of gun violence, and she knows about that firsthand, she lost a granddaughter who was shot and killed more than 10 years ago. The group provides emotional support and practical advice to survivors as they journey through the grieving and judicial process.

She’s also going to tell us about the gun safety and gun law seminar her group is hosting on Saturday, June 25, at the Incubate Neighborhood Center at 532 N 13th St. in Fort Pierce. Learn more at their website at: https://www.fortpiercesurvivors2019.org/.
