Fort Pierce - Friday July 15, 2022: This week on In Focus with IRSC Public Media we begin with fireworks, their use, and misuse. Fire officials says that on July 4th at least 3 fires were caused by the misuse of fireworks, one of those fires in Fort Pierce displaced 17 people from 3 families.

We'll speak with St. Lucie County Fire District Chief Nate Spera about that, and the other types of fires his department fights. He'll tell us about the dangers of fireworks and the state laws that govern their sale and use. Learn more about the St. Lucie County Fire District on their website at: https://www.slcfd.com/.

Then we're going to speak with St. Lucie County Election Supervisor Gertrude Walker. There is a primary coming up in August and a general election in November.

It's time to get registered or make sure your current registration is error free. Gertrude will tell us how to do that, and she'll talk about some of the changes caused by redistricting, and the new election law passed this year by the legislature.
