Governor Ron DeSantis celebrated the signing of House Bill 3 Thursday at Indian River State College. The bill creates the "New Worlds Reading Initiative", which will allow children from kindergarten to fifth grade to receive free books delivered to their homes, if they are currently reading below grade level. The project is part of a $271 million investment to improve literacy rates across the state.

DeSantis was joined by State Senator Gayle Harrell, Florida House Speaker Chris Sprowls, the Commissioner of Education, Richard Corcoran, and members of the Treasure Coast's House delegation in Tallahassee.

State Representative Dana Trabulsy noted that DeSantis's visit to the college was the first by a sitting Florida Governor.

The ceremony ended with Pre-K students from IRSC's Early Childhood Education program singing the Governor their rendition of "My Florida Alphabet".
