Indian River County-Friday March 25: A St. Lucie County man wanted on a warrant fled from a traffic stop last Friday and led St. Lucie County Sheriffs on a high speed chase through Fort Pierce and into southern Indian River County before he was caught.

The chase lasted some 30 minutes. A pursing SLC Sheriff’s helicopter recorded the chase during which the suspect was seen avoiding stop-sticks and police vehicles. Richardson eventually ran up against a closed gate across 17th St. SW in a rural part of Vero Beach. As he attempted to turn around he collided with a pursing deputy’s patrol car. He then turned again and drove into the woods where he stopped and got out of his vehicle.

Pursuit from Fort Pierce into Indian River County

At least 1 other marked and 6 unmarked police vehicles soon arrived at the scene and deputies and officers, with guns drawn, took the man into custody. He has been identified as 41-year-old Cory Richardson.

Richardson was booked into the Indian River County Jail on felony fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, and drug-related charges.
