Governor Makes 22 Appointments

Tallahassee - Friday April 29, 2022: Governor Ron DeSantis Friday made the following appointments:

Governor Appoints Five to the Construction Industry Licensing Board

1. Bradley Barreto - Barreto, of Coral Gables, is the Principal and Broker of Barreto Real Estate Group, LLC. He is currently appointed to the Millennial Task Force by Miami-Dade County and the Coral Gables Economic Development Board by the City of Coral Gables. Barreto holds both a General Contractors and Real Estate Broker’s license and earned his bachelor’s degree in business management from Babson College.

2. Robert Maphis - Maphis, of Windermere, is the President of the Collage Companies. He is currently a member of the West Orange Chamber of Commerce, Central Florida Gator BCN Club, and the Associated Builders and Contractors. Maphis earned his bachelor’s degree in building construction from the University of Florida.

3. Michael Sasso - Sasso, of Oviedo, is a Partner at Sasso & Sasso P.A. He is currently the Chairman of the 5th District Court of Appeals Judicial Nominating Commission. Sasso is on the Board of Directors for the Seminole County Bar Association, the Board of Advisors for Barry University and is a member of the Seminole County Inn of Court, the Orange County Bar Association, and the Associated Builders and Contractors Central Florida Chapter. He is board certified by the Florida Bar as a specialist in construction law. Sasso earned his bachelor’s degree from Colgate University and juris doctor from Northern Kentucky University.

4. Michael Strickland - Strickland, of Lakeland, is the President of Strickland Construction Inc. He is a veteran of the United States Navy. With over 23 years of experience in construction management, he currently serves as the Chair of the Construction Industry Licensing Board.

5. Brian Zettle - Zettle, of Tallahasee, is a Partner and Consultant for Boyette Zettle, LLC. With over 25 years in the industry, he served on the Construction Advisory Committee for Tallahassee Community College and the Leadership Tallahassee Board of Governors. Zettle earned his bachelor’s degree in building construction from the University of North Florida.

Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Six to the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors

1. Charles Howe - Howe, of Gainesville, is currently the Plans Examiner for the City of Gainesville. He previously served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and was the past President of the Building Officials Association of Florida North Florida Chapter. Howell received his law enforcement certificate from Santa Fe College Police Academy.

2. Jane Decker - Decker, of Miami, is currently the Building Director for the City of Doral. She is a member of the Building Officials Association of Florida and was named South Florida Building Officials Association Member of the Year in 2021. Decker earned her bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Miami, her master’s degree in real estate development from Nova Southeastern University, and a graduate certificate in public administration from the University of Central Florida.

3. Mark Grenier - Grenier, of Deland, is the Building Official for the City of Clermont. He has over 21 years of experience as a licensed building official in Florida. Grenier is a veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps and the Florida Army National Guard. He is a member of the Florida Roofing and Sheet Metal Association, Building Officials Association of Florida, and International Association of Electrical Inspectors. Grenier received his degree from Columbia Southern University.

4. Alexander Hernandez - Hernandez, of Coral Springs, is the Chief Building Official for the City of Coral Springs. He is a member of the Building Officials Association of Florida and the Association of State Floodplan Managers. Hernandez earned a certificate from Sheridan Vocational Technical College.

5. Peter Ringle - Ringle, of Lake Worth, is the Building Official for the City of Lake Worth. He currently serves on the Palm Beach County Construction Licensing Board and is the Secretary for the Building Officials of Palm Beach County. Ringle earned his bachelor’s degree from Christendom College.

6. Steven Schoeff - Schoeff, of Keystone Heights, is currently the Building Official for Clay County Board of Commissioners. He has over 25 years of experience as a building inspector. Schoeff is a member of the Code Interpretations Committee.

Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Eight to the State Apprenticeship Advisory Council

1. Kirk Barras - Barras, of Middleburg, is the Training Director for Jacksonville Plumbers & Pipefitters. He is a veteran having served in the United States Navy. Barras is the President of the Jacksonville General Apprenticeship Association and serves on the Board of Directors for CareerSource Northeast Florida.

2. Steve Cona III - Cona, of Tampa, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Associated Builders and Contractors. Cona earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of South Florida.

3. Marcelo Dossantos - Dossantos, of Fort Pierce, is currently the Director of Talent Development for FloridaMakes. He is the Executive Director for the Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Leadership Council. Dossantos earned his bachelor’s degree from West Texas A&M University and his master’s in business administration from Amberton University.

4. Eric Kennedy - Kennedy, of Margate, is President of EDK Management Consultants. He is a current member of ACE Mentorship of South Florida. Kennedy earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and math from Florida Southern College and a master’s degree in management from Troy University.

5. David McCraw - McCraw, of Lakeland, is the Director of the Tampa Area Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC). He is currently a member of CareerSource Polk County and the Florida Association of Apprenticeship Administrators. McGraw is a graduate of the Tampa Area Electrical JATC.

6. Lee Middleton - Middleton, of Wesley Chapel, is the Training Director for Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 123. He is currently a member of the United Association and was a previous member of American Welding Association. Middleton earned a degree in instrumentation technology from Erwin Technical College and a certificate as a training coordinator from Washtenaw Community College.

7. Natasha Sherwood - Sherwood, of Lutz, is the Executive Director of Independent Electrical Contractors. She was previously the Chief Executive Officer and Head of School for the Tampa Bay Christian Academy. Sherwood earned her bachelor’s degree in public relations and her master’s degree in mass communications from the University of Florida.

8. Kathryn Starkey - Starkey, of New Port Richey, has been a Commissioner for the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners since 2012. Starkey is a graduate of Florida State University and Pinellas Technical Education Center.

Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Dr. Marc Klein to the Board of Podiatric Medicine

* Marc Klein - Dr. Klein, of Boca Raton, is a practicing podiatrist at Florida Foot Specialists. He has been practicing podiatric medicine since 1981. He is currently a member of the Florida Podiatric Medical Association and the Palm Beach County Medical Association. Dr. Klein earned his bachelor’s degree from Lafayette College and his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from Illinois College.

Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints Daniel Foganholi to the School Board of Broward County

* Daniel Foganholi - Foganholi, of Coral Springs, is currently a Design Consultant for Arhaus. He currently works with the American Brazilian Coalition, is an active member of his church, Habitat for Humanity, and Feeding America. Foganholi earned certificates in marketing and business management from Florida Atlantic University.

Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints James Scholl to the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners

* James Scholl - Scholl, of Key West, served as the City Manager for the City of Key West from 2007 to 2012 and 2014 to 2019. Prior to that, he was the Senior Government Director of the Naval Air Station Key West Tactical Aircrew Combat Training System range office. Scholl is a veteran of the United States Navy. He is currently a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Key West, Key West Military Affairs Committee, and serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the Sigsbee Charter School. Scholl received his bachelor’s degree in zoology from Miami University (Ohio) and his master’s degree in national security and strategic studies from Navy War College.
