Indiantown - Wednesday June 7, 2022: Indian River State College has announced that it will begin construction immediately on the permanent site for Indiantown High School. The groundbreaking ceremony has been set for 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14.
Indiantown High School will be a state-of-the-art career and workforce education school on Southwest Citrus Boulevard in Indiantown. The state budget signed into law last week by the Governor includes $5 million for planning, design, engineering, and preliminary construction of the new charter high school.
"We are grateful for the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis and our legislative delegation, the vision of our generous lead donor and the support of Martin County Board of Commissioners and Martin County School District in getting us to this day," said Dr. Timothy Moore, president of Indian River State College. "Our mutual desire to bring this high school and the opportunities that come with it to the families of Indiantown has resulted in a velocity of execution that is unmatched. Indiantown will have its own high school by this time next year."
In mid-2021, IRSC made public its vision to bring a charter high school to Indiantown, Florida, one of the most economically depressed areas in its service district. The project was accelerated by a $10 million gift from an anonymous donor who admired the College's track record and commitment to helping students of all ages, backgrounds and means achieve their dreams through education.
A land lease for 25-acres of county property on Southwest Citrus Boulevard was approved by the Martin County Board of Commissioners in February 2022. Last month, members of the School Board of Martin County unanimously voted to accept IRSC's application to establish Indiantown High School. Indiantown High School will welcome its first students in its temporary location at the Boys & Girls Club of Indiantown in August. The school is presently accepting applications for admissions to its inaugural 9th-grade class. The application form is available at: indiantownhs.irsc.edu.
The new career and technical education charter high school focuses on career and workforce education and Dual Enrollment opportunities. Its unique educational foundation aims to develop entrepreneurial mindsets supporting individual and regional economic stability and enhance pathways for workforce and post-high school educational opportunities. The school will offer a traditional curriculum with an added focus on career and technical education opportunities in manufacturing, HVAC, automotive technology, electrical, etc. The new school will also allow IRSC to train local citizens wishing to earn credentials/degrees during nights and weekends.
