Forty motorcycle patrol officers in two rows led the funeral procession to Christ Fellowship Church in Port St. Lucie. Officers from the Fort Pierce Police Department were among the hundreds of law enforcement officers from around the state who took part in honoring Patterson.

Patterson was on duty in an unmarked FWC pickup traveling west on Okeechobee Road in St. Lucie County last Thursday when he collided head-on with a Kia sedan being driven by a 24 year old woman from Tampa who was traveling the wrong way. Patterson was helicoptered to Longwood Hospital in Vero where he was pronounced dead. The 24 year old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
