Florida - Wednesday August 31, 2022: Democrat Charlie Crist summited his resignation from Congress on Wednesday in order to concentrate on his campaign to unseat incumbent republican Governor Ron DeSantis.
"It’s been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Pinellas in Washington," said Crist on his Facebook page. "Casework operations will continue under the Office of Florida's 13th Congressional District until newly elected members take office in 2023." He has represented the 13th Florida Congressional District since 2016. It covers much of a Pinellas County and includes his hometown of St. Petersburg.
DeSantis did the same thing four years ago when he resigned his Palm Coast congressional seat just days after winning the Republican nomination for governor over the state’s then-agriculture commissioner, Adam Putnam.
Crist won the Democratic primary for governor last week, easily beating rival Nikki Fried, Florida’s agriculture commissioner and the lone statewide elected Democrat.
