Fort Pierce - Wednesday November 30, 2022: An elderly woman in a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle in Fort Pierce Sunday night and died.
It was dark said Acting Fort Pierce Police PIO Officer April Lee when a southbound vehicle hit the 60-year-old woman who was trying to roll her wheelchair west across the intersection towards Avenue D.
The woman was trying to cross Route #1 against the light. The driver had the right of way said Officer Lee. “He had the green light," she said.
The investigation is continuing, said Officer Lee, but as of Wednesday no charges had been filed in the case. The woman was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Her identity has not been released.
