Fort Pierce - Saturday December 10, 2022: The Fort Pierce Utility Authority has launched a new website to provide customers with up updates about the Fort Pierce sewer treatment plant relocation. The website is located at: at www.SustainableSewer.net

Construction of the new sewer plant will begin in January 2023, with an estimated completion date of mid to late 2024. Wastewater will be redirected to the new plant in phases, with an estimated demolition and mitigation date of mid-2027 on South Hutchinson Island.

The plant is being moved to protect the Indian River Lagoon. The move will ensure that the Lagoon is shielded from possible sewer leaks.

Rates have been increased to cover the cost of relocating the plant but FPUA says in the long run the upgraded plant will save residents money, will be more energy-efficient, and will cost less to operate.

It will also reduce the draw from the Floridan aquifer by an average of two million gallons per day.
