Florida - Monday February 27, 2023: Florida Democrats on Saturday elected Nikki Fried to be the party's chair. She replaces Manny Diaz, who stepped down in January following extensive Democratic loses to republicans in the November election.
Fried is the former Florida Agriculture Commissioner. She ran for the democratic nomination for Governor last year but lost to Charlie Crist. In the race for Democratic party chair she defeated Sen. Annette Taddeo, a Miami-area Democrat.
“This is our time to rebuild the Democratic Party, and to do it together," said Fried after her election. She said among her priorities are to expand volunteers and the voting base, give power back to grassroots leaders, and to re-electing Democrats across the state.
Today, we were reminded once again that we are a big tent party, and that together we can reclaim that fundamental truth -- that out of many, we are one.”
