Fort Pierce - Friday February 17, 2023: Fort Pierce Police Wednesday arrested 22 year old Bryan Marquez on a charge of 1st Degree Murder.

Marquez is accused in the death of a man whose body was found partially buried in the backyard of a home in the 400 block of 18th Street South Street in Fort Pierce.

According to a release from the Fort Pierce Police Department, officers got a call on Monday, February 13th about "a possible body buried in the backyard" at that location.

When they arrived, they saw what appeared to be a human foot sticking out from the ground. They unearthed the body of an Hispanic man between the ages of 35 and 45 years of age. The victim was eventually identified but his identity has not yet been released. "Death notification is pending," states the release.

The investigation of the death led officers to interview a suspect already in custody who had been arrested the previous night in the same area where the body was uncovered, Bryan Marquez.

FPPD Officers obtained "a full confession" from Marquez, states the release. He was "subsequently charged with first-degree murder."

The Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office, and the State Attorney's Office assisted Fort Pierce Police in the investigation, which is still ongoing.

The Fort Pierce Police Department urges anyone with information related to the incident to contact Detective Troy Carter at 772-332-9646 or tcarter@fppd.org. "Any information, no matter how small, could be crucial to the investigation," states the release from FPPD.
