Tribal Nation: Masks Exhibition

David Charlowe’s exhibition is titled “Tribal Nation.” In 2019, after surviving a bout with cancer, he asked several artists to repurpose almost two dozen radiation masks. These masks are used by cancer patients receiving radiation treatment around the head and neck area, thus enabling doctors to designate spots to receive radiation.

By repurposing these masks, Charlowe created a “tribe” of those who have been through cancer and/or radiation. Each repurposed artistic mask symbolizes the fortitude needed to survive radiation and cancer treatments.
