A 4-year old boy drowned in the Newport Isles residential community pool Tuesday afternoon.
The child was in the pool when a family member saw that he'd gone under, according to a news release from the Port St. Lucie Police Department. The boy was pulled out of the pool, CPR was started, and the police were called. When officers responded at 5:44pm they took over the lifesaving effort. St. Lucie County Fire District paramedics continued CPR as they rushed the child to the hospital. However the boy was pronounced dead on arrival.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this extremely difficult time," said SLPD PIO Sergeant John Dellacroce. A PSLPD victim’s advocate and chaplain also responded to provide comfort to the family and the PSLPD activated its critical incident stress management protocols in support of the responding officers.
An investigation into the drowning is underway.
