Man Dies After Falling Off Golf Cart; Driver Arrested for DUI Manslaughter

Palm City - Wednesday April 27, 2022: A 34-year-old man died after he fell off the back of a golf cart in Palm City Tuesday night. Port St. Lucie Police have charged the man who was driving the golf cart with DUI manslaughter.

The evening began at the Floridian National Golf Club clubhouse located at 3700 SE Floridian Drive. According to a news release from the PSL Police Department, three people left that clubhouse, got into a golf cart, and headed back to a residence within the golfing community.

The victim was standing-up in the rear of the golf cart when the cart went over a raised man-hole cover and he fell off and hit the roadway within the grounds of Floridian National Golf Club.

PSL police responded at 11:07 p.m. The Saint Lucie County Fire District was called in. The man was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 34-year-old Christopher Cipra of Texas.

Traffic Homicide Investigators arrested the golf cart driver, 53-year-old John Hehr of Texas. He was confined at the St. Lucie County Jail on the DUI manslaughter charge.

The investigation is continuing.
