Sebastian - Friday April 29, 2022: Sebastian Police recovered the body of a 93 year old woman on Friday from a large freezer in the garage of a home in the 100 block of Paddock Street in Sebastian.
The woman has been identified as Marie Hoskins. Detectives executed a search warrant at the home during the early morning hours of April 29.
The police were called in after neighbors became concerned about Marie Hoskins who they had not seen for some time. They called police on Thursday April 28. Officers went to the home to check on her welfare.
Multiple attempts were made from outside the home to contact anyone inside the home but they were unsuccessful. Due to the growing concern over Marie Hoskins' well-being, officers were able to obtain a key to the residence with the assistance of an out of town family member.
Police entered the home and encountered Marie Hoskins' 64-year-old daughter. Police have not identified the daughter by name. It is not clear why the daughter did not respond to the prior attempts by police to inquire about the whereabouts of her mother.
According to information posted on the Sebastian Police Department's Facebook page the daughter "initially" told police she had not seen her mother Marie in some time. Police continued their search of the residence to try and locate Marie Hoskins. They entered the garage, opened a large freezer, and found her body.
The daughter voluntarily came to the Sebastian Police Department for questioning. Detectives then obtained a warrant, went back to the home to continue their search and recovered more evidence.
No arrests have been made in the case so far. Detectives are working with the Medical Examiner to determine the cause of death. The case remains active at this time.
