Vero Beach - Monday May 2, 2022: Indian River County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested Iva Worthy Jr. on allegations of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
Worthy is accused in the stabbing of 3 people at the Pemberley Palms apartment complex early Saturday morning, April 30.
According to a post on the SLC Sheriff's Facebook page, Deputies responded to the reported stabbing at 2:30 a.m. and found 3 people who were "actively bleeding from their injuries." Worthy had fled the scene on foot. Canine Deputy Sunny and his handler were called in and began tracking Worthy. Sunny quickly located Worthy hiding within the complex, concealed in some shrubs.
All three victims were turned over to EMS, one of which was flown to a trauma center. As of Monday all three victims were either in stable condition or had been released from the hospital.
According to IRC Major Crimes Detectives, the incident began as an argument between Worthy and his girlfriend. Worthy is then alleged to have repeatedly stabbed her with a 5 to 8 inch kitchen knife. Other family members in the home tried to stop him but he began attacking them as well, "causing numerous injuries"' according to the Sheriff's Detectives.
Worthy is being held at the Indian River County Jail on a $350,000.00 bond.
