Indian River County - Friday May 27, 2022: The Veterans Council of Indian River County invites the community to attend a Memorial Day Observance Monday, May 30, at 8:30 am on Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary in Vero Beach’s Riverside Park.
The ceremony will start promptly at 9:00 am and will include full military honors, with the Parade of the Colors.
“The Veterans Council is proud to present this Memorial Day Observance and we hope all will join us for our annual tradition where we remember those who went to war and gave the ultimate sacrifice.” said Carlos Halcomb, Interim Executive Director of the Veterans Council.
Brig. General Randall C. “Arlo” Guthrie, USAF (Ret) will be the keynote speaker at this year's event. Brig. Gen. Guthrie is the mobilization assistant to the Commander, U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J.
General Guthrie was commissioned through the Officer Training School in March 1983. He is a command pilot with more than 3,500 military and 8,000 civilian flying hours including tours flying T-37, F-15, C-5 and KC-135 aircraft. He has flown combat missions in Operation Enduring Freedom and combat support missions to Southwest Asia in addition to operations in Bosnia, Somalia and Haiti.
The U.S. Air Force Expeditionary Center is the Air Force’s Center of Excellence for advanced expeditionary combat support training and education, while also providing direct oversight for en-route and installation support, contingency response, and partner capacity building mission sets within the global mobility enterprise. The Expeditionary Center provides operational control of the Mobility Operations School and the Expeditionary Operations School, and administrative control for six wings and two groups within Air Mobility Command.
