Florida - Thursday June 2, 2022: Senate Bill 2508 was finally transmitted to transmitted to Gov. DeSantis’ desk Thursday.

He now has 15 days to sign it, veto it, or let it lapse into law on July 1 without his signature.

The environmental group Friends of the Everglades is urging him to veto it. In a news release Thursday the group said "the only environmentally defensible move is a VETO."

“SB 2508 is a grab bag of terrible ideas, destined to result in more toxic discharges to Florida's coast and fast-tracking the destruction of crucial wetlands,” Friends of the Everglades policy director Gil Smart said.

"If passed, SB 2508 will have widespread negative impacts on Floridians and the state’s tourism-based economy by letting utility companies pay to expedite review permits that would destroy wetlands; and preserving status quo water policy that has deprived the southern Everglades of clean freshwater and resulted in devastating toxic algae blooms in the past," states the release from Friends of the Everglades.

The group is urging concerned residents to click on this link and send the Governor a message asking him to veto SB 2508.
