Okeechobee County - Friday June 3, 2022: Okeechobee County can anticipate 4-6 inches of rain throughout the county with as much as 10 inches in some areas. Tropical Storm force gusting winds and tornados are also possible. All county departments are making preparations in advance of this storm.
As of Friday, June 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. Okeechobee County has these important updates:
• Okeechobee County emergency officials are monitoring Potential Tropical Cyclone 1. Okeechobee County is currently under a TROPICAL STORM WARNING and a FLOOD WATCH.
• This system is expected to produce approximately 4-8 inches of rain with up to 10 inches in some locations. Tropical Storm force winds and tornados are also possible. We encourage citizens to secure any loose items outside your home; (i.e: garbage cans, patio umbrellas, patio chairs, hanging plants, etc.)
• The INFORMATION CALL LINE is open by calling the Okeechobee County Library at 863-763-3536 until 6:00 p.m. today and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
• SANDBAGS are available at the Road Department Compound located at 804 NW 2nd Street. Staff will be on site with shovels and bags until 4:00 p.m. today. Citizens will be instructed to fill their own bags unless special needs require limited assistance from County staff. Limited bags and shovels will be available throughout the day on Saturday with no staff present.
• CLIF BETTS, JR., LAKESIDE RECREATION AREA (LOCK 7) will be closed to the public at 3:00 p.m. today.
