School District of Indian River County Increases State Ranking

The state ranking for the School District of Indian River County increased from 38 to 22 for the 2021-2022 school year.

Indian River County - Thursday July 7, 2022: The School District of Indian River County's state ranking increased from 38 to 22 for the 2021-2022 school year according to the Individual Florida School and District Grades released Thursday by the Florida Department of Education and

District Grades

• District Grade: The IRC district earned a "B" and maintained the percentage of points earned when compared to the 18-19 school year. Maintaining the percentage of points earned has resulted in an improvement in the School District of Indian River County (SDIRC) state ranking of 38 in 2018- 2019 school year to 22 in the 2021-2022 school year.

• District percentage of points earned when compared to 2018-2019 school year: The IRC School District is one (1) of nine (9) districts who maintained the percentage of points earned, while only six (6) other districts increased their district percentage of points earned.

• Compared to the surrounding districts of Brevard, Okeechobee, St. Lucie, Martin: The IRC School District was the only district to maintain the percentage of points earned when compared to the 2018-2019 school year.

Both Indian River County and St. Lucie County maintained a district grade of "B": Brevard, Okeechobee, and Martin Counties all dropped one (1) letter grade when compared to the 2018-2019 school year.

“These results are a clear indication of the unwavering commitment of our administrators, teachers, support staff, and families," said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. David K. Moore. "While there is much good work to still do, today’s results serve as a true inspiration of the positive impact that SDIRC has had on the students of our community.”

• Highlights related to components included in the District grade are as follows:

* English Language Arts-Achievement: Improved from a state ranking of 30 (18-19) to 22 (21-22)

* English Language Arts-Bottom Quartile: Improved from a state ranking of 25 (18-19) to 13 (21-22)

* Mathematics-Bottom Quartile: Improved from a state ranking of 25 (18-19) to 17 (21-22)

* Science-Achievement: Improved from a state ranking of 37 (18-19) to 23 (21-22)

* Social Studies-Achievement: Improved from a state ranking of 46 (18-19) to 39 (21-22)

* Middle School Acceleration: Improved from a state ranking of 56 (18-19) to 21 (21-22)

School Grades

* For the current school year, 53% of the non-charter schools in The IRC School District district that were assigned a school grade earned an A or B. When compared to surrounding districts (i.e., Brevard, Okeechobee, Martin, St. Lucie). The IRC School District was the only district to increase the percentage of non-charter schools earning an "A" or "B."

* The IRC School District non-charter schools, four (4) maintained an "A," five (5) improved from a "C" to a "B," four (4) schools moved from a "B" to a "C," and four (4) schools remained at a "C." Of the five (5) charter schools two (2) maintained an "A," one (1) school maintained a "B," and two (2) schools dropped a letter grade.

* For the current school year, four (4) non-charter elementary schools (Beachland Elementary, Liberty Magnet, Osceola Magnet, and Rosewood Magnet) earned an "A."

* Osceola Magnet School's percentage of total points earned on spring assessments was in the top 6% of elementary schools in the State.

* Fellsmere Elementary, Indian River Academy, Sebastian Elementary, Storm Grove Middle School, and Treasure Coast Elementary all increased one letter grade (i.e., from a "C" to a "B") when compared to the 18-19 school year.
