Florida EV Sales Growing, But Lagging Behind the National Average

New EV sales during the months of January, February, and March this year amounted to 4.51% of all light-duty vehicle sales, an increase of 1.9% from Q1 of 2021.

Florida - Thursday July 14, 2022: The Alliance for Automotive Innovation has released a report showing that the market share of electric vehicles sold in Florida increased nearly 2% in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

New EV sales during the months of January, February, and March this year amounted to 4.51% of all light-duty vehicle sales, an increase of 1.9% from Q1 of 2021.

That still lags behind the national market share average which was 5.9% of the overall light-duty vehicle sales in the first quarter.

The latest Get Connected Electric Vehicle Quarterly Report summarizes electric vehicle (EV) sales and purchasing trends in all 50 states.

The report found 5,956 publicly available charging ports in Florida amounting to 22.94 EVs per charger for Q1 of 2022.

Q1 2022 key takeaways:

· EVs represented 5.9 percent of overall light-duty vehicle sales (unchanged from Q4 2021);

· Almost 200,000 EVs were sold in Q1 in the U.S., an increase of 4.2 percent over the previous quarter and 54 percent over the same period in 2021;

· 79 EV models (cars, utility vehicles, pickups and vans) are available for sale in the U.S.;

· Top five states for EV sales: California (17.9 percent); the District of Columbia (13.5 percent); Washington state (9.7 percent); Oregon (9.4 percent); and Colorado (8.3 percent);

· Nationally, publicly available EV charging locations increased 20 percent since January 1, 2021 (113,793 charging ports). The national average of EVs per charger was 20.70 for Q1 of 2022.
