Indian River County - Thursday July 14, 2022: 38-year-old Bobby Dean Martin was on the run Monday night after allegedly stabbing and straggling his girlfriend.

K-9 Mako, with the help of his handler Indian River County Deputy Ricardo Ferrer, ran him to ground, along with Deputy Mindy Mangel.

The incident began when IRC Sheriff Deputies responded to the 4200 block of 48th Avenue in Gifford on a report of a domestic disturbance. The female victim said her live-in boyfriend attempted to strangle her. Upon arrival, Deputies learned that she had also been stabbed.

Deputies searched the area and found Martin, but he refused multiple commands to stop and attempted to flee.

The body camera footage released by the IRC Sheriff shows one deputy deploying a taser, which Martin was able to brush off.

K-9 Mako and K-9 Dep. Ferrer pursued. K-9 Mako tracked Martin down, but the suspect continued to resist and "tried to strangle K-9 Mako", according to a post on the IRC Sheriff's Facebook page.

Deputies were eventually able to subdue Martin and take him into custody, "but only after Martin kicked and hit our deputies multiple times."

Martin was brought to the hospital for a physical exam but he "continued to fight at the hospital." Eventfully he was medically cleared and then brought immediately to jail. At the jail however Martin "physically fought with the booking deputies," according to the post.

Martin now faces numerous charges including felony battery, domestic violence by strangulation, aggravated battery, battery on a police dog, three counts of battery on an officer, and resisting arrest with violence. He is currently being held at the county jail without bond.
