Port St. Lucie - Tuesday August 9, 2022: Port St. Lucie’s waste-service contract with Waste Pro is coming to an end in a few weeks and the city has issued an advisory to residents about what to expect until the new service provider takes over.
In their advisory the City of Port St. Lucie admits that the coming weeks won’t be easy. Residents should anticipate service to get worse as the end of Waste Pro’s contract nears in early September, and there could be longer wait times in between pickups.
The City says they will continue to deploy its fleet of leased trucks, in combination with three rear loaders from FCC Environmental Services in order to supplement Waste Pro’s service and to respond to missed pickups. However delayed pickups are still expected.
Residents are asked to continue to leave their trash by the curb until it gets picked up. Any resident who has missed two service days in a row is asked to report it.
If immediate dispose is needed there are two supplemental options. You can drop off your garbage, recycling, bulk and yard waste at the County Solid Waste Facility, or you can use the free, voluntary drop-off site located at the Public Works Complex at the corner of Cameo Boulevard and Crosstown Parkway to drop off recycling, bulk and yard waste items.
The distribution of new larger garbage carts has begun and residents can put them to use, Waste Pro has agreed to service them.
FCC Environmental Services takes over hauling the city’s trash the week of Sept. 5.
A new solid waste notification update system, through text or phone alerts, is coming soon and residents are asked to sign up at www.cityofpsl.com/solidwaste.

Here’s what to expect during the last weeks of Waste Pro’s contract with PSL
PORT ST. LUCIE – As we near the final weeks of Waste Pro’s contract, the City of Port St. Lucie wants to be open, honest and realistic about what to expect in the coming weeks and to remind residents of two voluntary relief disposal options.
City staff does not expect it to be an easy month, and residents could potentially see longer wait times in between pickups. We anticipate service to get worse as we near the end of Waste Pro’s contract in early September. The City thanks residents for their understanding and resiliency as we transition to a new waste hauler.
Residents are asked to continue to leave their trash by the curb until it gets picked up. The City is utilizing its fleet of leased trucks, in combination with three rear loaders trucks from FCC Environmental Services Florida (for a total of 9 trucks), to supplement Waste Pro’s service and to respond to missed pickups. Even with these supplemental trucks, the City still expects residents will see delayed pickups. During this transition period, the City is asking residents who have missed two service days in a row to please report it to 1PSL. Staff will be verifying routes daily to coordinate the supplemental collection services.
If a resident needs to immediately dispose of their waste, two supplemental options continue to be available. Residents can still voluntarily utilize the St. Lucie County Solid Waste, Baling & Recycling Facility to drop off garbage as well as clean, empty recyclables for free. They also can use the free, voluntary drop-off site located at the Public Works Complex on the corner Cameo Boulevard and Crosstown Parkway for clean recyclables as well as yard and bulk waste.
As soon as residents receive their new, larger garbage cart, they can use it if they need extra capacity for their trash. Waste Pro agreed to service the new carts. If Waste Pro does service these new carts with the rest of your trash, please let the City know by reporting it to 1PSL at 772-871-1775. The distribution of carts has already begun on the east side of the City. Distribution of carts to the west side will begin in mid-August. All carts will be delivered by your first collection date in September.
The new service with FCC Environmental Services Florida, LLC begins the week of Sept. 5. The City is asking all residents to please be patient as new drivers learn the routes. In addition, FCC will have to deal with the extra trash left behind by Waste Pro. Once again, we ask for your patience as they tackle this backlog of trash that needs to be picked up in their first weeks. FCC has the resources and equipment to bring reliable and efficient service back to Port St. Lucie.
