New Laws Impacting Vote-By-Mail Ballots

“Over 54,000 Vote-By-Mail Ballots have been sent to voters that have a request on file with the St. Lucie County Supervisor of Elections” said Supervisor of Elections Gertrude Walker. “Registered voters can submit a request to receive a Vote-By-Mail Ballot in order to vote from the convenience of their homes for the upcoming August 23, 2022 Primary Election.”

Senate Bill 90 which was enacted on May 6, 2021, revised election law regarding Vote-By-Mail ballots. Voters are now required to confirm the last four digits of their Social Security number or a Florida Identification Number in order to request a Vote-By-Mail ballot. In addition, voters must renew their request for a Vote-By-Mail ballot after every general election cycle. Pursuant to Florida Statutes 104.0616, voters are only permitted to possess two ballots other than their own or an immediate family member. Senate Bill 524 increased the penalty for violations of this provision of the statute to a felony offense.

Along with Vote-By-Mail, St. Lucie County voters have the following options of voting:

• Early Voting from August 13 to August 20 at any Early Voting site from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm at six Early voting sites

• Election Day, August 23, 2022 at their precinct from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
