Governor Appoints 26 to Various State Boards and Commissions

Florida Monday September 5, 2022: Governor Ron DeSantis has made the following 26 appointments to state boards and commissions:

Two appointments to the Florida Commission on Ethics

Edwin Moore, PhD - Moore is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida. He was previously appointed as a member of the Governor’s Efficiency Task Force, as well as CareerSource Florida. Moore earned his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees from Florida State University.

Glenton Gilzean - Gilzean is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Central Florida Urban League and currently serves on the Ninth Judicial Nominating Commission. He previously served on the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) Board of Trustees and the Pinellas County School Board. Gilzean earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences and his master’s degree in entrepreneurship from the University of South Florida.

One appointed to the Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

Niva Falk - Falk, of Parkland, owns and operates her own practice as a Speech-Language Pathologist. She is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Falk earned her bachelor’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from the University of Florida and her master’s degree in communication sciences and disorders from Emerson College.

Five appointments to the Lake-Sumter State College District Board of Trustees

Bret Jones - Jones, of Clermont, is a Lawyer for the Law Offices of Bret Jones, P.A. He is a member of Cornerstone Hospice Foundation and Imagine Schools at South Lake. Jones earned his bachelor’s degree in management from Webber International University and juris doctor from the University of Florida.

Timothy Morris - Morris, of Leesburg, is the Vice President of Ernie Morris Enterprises, Inc. He is a member of the National Office Products Association, and Rotary International and is the Treasurer of the Florida College System Foundation. Morris earned his associate degree from Lake-Sumter State College.

Marlene O’Toole - O’ Toole, of Lady Lake, is the head of Beacon College’s Transition Work for Student Career Development. She was previously an IBM Executive and a House Member for the Florida House of Representatives from 2009-2016. In her second term, O’Toole was Chair of the House Education Committee.

David Hidalgo - Hidalgo, of Clermont, is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist for Envision Services. He is a member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology. Hidalgo earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and nursing from McNeese State University, a master’s degree in anesthesiology from Barry University, and a master’s degree in business management from the University of Florida.

Ivy Parks - Parks, of Clermont, is the Project Assistant and Accounting Manager for Parks Consulting Services. She is a member of the local Parent Teacher Organization. Parks earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration and her master’s degree in international business from the University of Central Florida.

Four appointed to the College of Central Florida District Board of Trustees

Russell Branson - Branson, of Ocala, is the President of SouthState Bank. He is a board member for AdventHealth Ocala Hospital, Marion County Hospital District, and Marion County Public Policy Institute and the Treasurer of the United Way Marion County. Branson earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Florida State University and his master’s degree in banking from Louisiana State University.

Fredrick Roberts Jr. - Roberts Jr., of Ocala, is a Partner and Attorney for Klein & Klein, LLC. He is a board member for Oak Hammock at the University of Florida and a member of the Marion County Bar Association. Roberts earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from University of Florida and his juris doctor from Stetson University.

Charlie Stone - Stone, of Ocala, is the President and Owner of Stone Petroleum Products, Inc. He was previously a House Member for the Florida House of Representatives from 2012-2020 and a Marion County Commissioner from 2004-2012. Stone is a member of the Chamber of Economic Partnership and the Marion County Roadbuilders Association and is the Past President of Silver Springs Rotary Club.

Dr. Michael Torres - Dr. Torres, of Ocala, is the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of AdventHealth. He is veteran of the United States Air Force. Dr. Torres earned a certificate in military leadership from Air War College, his master’s degree in business administration from Touro University International, and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Spartan Health Sciences University.

Seven appointments to the College of the Florida Keys District Board of Trustees

Daniel Leben - Leben is President of Smart Script Pharmacy and a Partner of Leben Family LLP. He is the Membership Ambassador for the Young Presidents Organization. Leben earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Marquette University.

Kevin Madok - Madok is the Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller for Monroe County. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Key West and Treasurer of the Sigsbee Charter School Board. Madok earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of San Diego and his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern California.

Michelle Maxwell - Maxwell is an Attorney and Inspector for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. She is a board member of the Sunrise Rotary of Key West, CareerSource, South Florida, and the Sigsbee Charter School Board. Maxwell earned her bachelor’s degree from Shepherd University,

Michael Puto - Puto currently serves on the Sixteenth Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission. He was previously elected to the Monroe County Board of Commissioners, where he served as Vice Mayor and Mayor. Puto earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Saint Leo University.

Stephanie Scuderi - Scuderi is the President of Centennial Bank’s Upper Keys market. She serves as a Director of the Early Learning Coalition of Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties. Scuderi earned her bachelor’s degree in communication from Cornell University, her master’s degree in integrated marketing from Northwestern University, and her master’s degree in business administration from the University of Virginia.

Sheldon Suga - Suga is the Vice President and Managing Director of Hawks Cay Resort. He is the immediate Past Chair of the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association State Executive Committee and is a board member of the District III Advisory Committee of the Monroe County Tourist Development Council. Suga earned his bachelor’s degree in hospitality management from Ryerson University.

Richard Weinstein - Weinstein is the President and Chief Operating Officer of the Ocean Reef Community Foundation. He previously served as Trustee of the Incentive Research Foundation. Weinstein earned his bachelor’s degree in business marketing from the University of South Florida.

Six appointments to the Chipola College District Board of Trustees

Melissa Cauley - Cauley is a retired Administrator and Student Advisor at Chipola College. She previously served as a Dual Enrollment Coordinator, Director of Student Serves and as Associate Vice President of Student Affairs at Chipola College. Cauley earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida State University.

Travis “Dell” Corbin - Corbin is the Vice President of Corbin Auto Sales. He is a member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, both the Florida and National Independent Automobile Dealers Association, as well as the Chipley Kiwanis Club. Corbin earned his associate degree from Chipola College.

James Dean - Dean is the City Manager of Marianna and is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He is a member of the Florida City County Managers Association and is a board member of the Jackson County Transportation Authority. Dean earned his bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and his master’s degree from Webster University.

Joel Paul - Paul is the Executive Director of the Tri-County Community Council, Inc. Paul earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of West Florida.

Daniel Ryals III - Ryals is the Owner and Broker of Danny Ryals Real Estate, as well as the Owner of R&R Warehouses. He was elected to serve on the Calhoun County School Board, and is a member of the Blountstown Rotary Club, the Chipola Appreciation Club, and the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce.

Karla Worley - Worley, of Bonifay, is the Owner and Operator of Castaway Seafood. She previously worked for the Florida Department of Health Holmes County. Worley attended Chipola College, Florida Panhandle Technical College, and Gulf Coast State College.

One appointment to the Washington County Board of County Commissioners

David Corbin - Corbin, of Chipley, is the Owner of Chipley Gun and Pawn, Inc. He is a member of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, CareerSource of Chipola, and First Federal Bank. Previously he served as a member of the Chipley Kiwanis Club and the Advance Washington County Advisory Board. He is a recipient of the Kiwanian of the Year Award in 2018. Corbin received his associate degree from Gulf Coast College.
