Indian River County Update on Hurricane Ian

Indian River County - Wednesday September 28, 2022: The information below is the preparations around the county for Hurricane Ian.

The following shelters will be opening on Wednesday, 9/28 at 12:00 PM

* Treasure Coast Elementary, 8955 85th Street - Special Needs Shelter
* Liberty Magnet School, 6580 81st Street - Pet-Friendly Shelter
* Freshman Learning Center, 1507 19th Street – General Population

No evacuations have been ordered.

* All government offices are closed Wednesday 9/27 and Thursday 9/28
* The School District of Indian River County has canceled school Wednesday 9/27 and Thursday 9/28
*Transportation: GoLine and Community Coach transportation will cease on Wednesday, 9/27 at 1:00 PM

All county convenience centers and landfills are closed until further notice. Waste and recycling pickup is suspended until further notice.

Causeways/Bridges to the Barrier Island remain open at this time. They will not be closed until a time that we receive tropical storm force winds making travel unsafe.

Beaches: County-guarded beach parks (Golden Sands, Wabasso, Tracking Station, and Round Island) will be open Wednesday 9/27 from 9 AM to 5 PM with Lifeguards on duty. Those beach parks will close at 5 pm when the guards go off duty and will be closed Thursday 9/28.

Courthouses in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit – Closed Wednesday 9/27 and Thursday 9/28. The public, media, and members of the legal community may visit the Circuit’s website at or call 772-742-9229 for further information about the status of court operations. Following the storm event, the telephonic information will be updated twice per day by 7:00 a.m. and by 7:00 p.m. or as otherwise directed by the Chief Judge.

Parks Inland: County Parks closed Wednesday 9/27 and Thursday 9/28
Beaches: County Beach Parks closed Wednesday 9/27 and Thursday 9/28
Fairgrounds: Closed Wednesday 9/27 and Thursday 9/28
Marina: Remains open at this time
