St. Lucie County - Monday October 3, 2022: The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Department has organized a relief effort for fellow Floridan's on the southwest coast stricken by Hurricane Ian.

Relief supply donations have poured into the Sheriff's office, enough to fill two semi-truck trailers.

"Our neighbors to the west are in desperate need right now," said SLC Sheriff Ken Mascara in a video posted on the Sheriff's Facebook page. He said the aim of the relief effort is to help first responders, who like so many other southwest coast residents, have suffered losses from the storm, but they continue to work on recovery efforts.

"The residents of St. Lucie County have stepped up once again," said SLCS Deputy Chief Brian Hester in a separate video. The trucks will be driven over to the west coast Tuesday, he said.
