The FPPD has been an accredited agency since October 1998.

Fort Pierce - Wednesday October 12, 2022: The Fort Pierce Police Department (FPPD) will undergoing a re-accreditation process in November.

An agency’s designation as “accredited” denotes a high standard of operation and policy implementation. It is a highly prized recognition of professional excellence.

The Fort Pierce Police Department has to comply with numerous standards in order to receive accredited status. Many of the standards are critical to life, health, safety issues, and best practices. The FPPD has been an accredited agency since October 1998.

Fort Pierce Police Chief Diane Hobley-Burney has announced that the team of assessors from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA) will arrive on November 15 and conduct their review through November 17.

As part of the assessment, agency members and the general public are invited to offer comments to the assessment team. Persons wishing to offer written comments about the Fort Pierce Police Department’s ability to meet the standards of accreditation, should send their comments to: CFA, P.O. Box 1489, Tallahassee, Florida, 32302, or email to flaccreditation@fdle.state.fl.us.

Fort Pierce Police Department Accreditation Manager Akeem Johnson says the assessment team will be composed of assessors from law enforcement agencies of similar size.

They will examine all aspects of the Fort Pierce Police Department’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services. The assessors will also review written materials, interview individuals, and visit offices and other areas where compliance can be observed.

Once the Commission’s assessors complete their review of the agency, they report to the full Commission, which then determines if the agency is to receive accredited or reaccredited status. The Fort Pierce Police Department’s accreditation is valid for three years. Verification by the team that the Fort Pierce Police Department meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain or maintain accreditation.

A copy of the standards manual is available on the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation’s website at www.flaccreditation.org under the standards tab.
