PSLPD School Resource Officer Finds Gun on Campus - 3 Students Arrested

During a search of a student’s backpack, a PSL Police School Resource Officer found a handgun and ammunition.

Port St. Lucie - Friday October 28, 2022: The Port St. Lucie Police Department arrested two 16-year-old students and a 15-year-old student at Treasure Coast High School Thursday after a handgun and ammunition were found on campus.

An alert teacher overheard a student talking about the possibility of a gun on campus, prompting the teacher to immediately notify law enforcement.

The School Resource Officer worked closely with school administration and the School Resource Deputy to identify the three students involved.

During a search of a student’s backpack, a PSL Police School Resource Officer found a handgun and ammunition.

Officers learned the students had passed the backpack around in attempt to hide the firearm from law enforcement. There were no threats made against other students or staff.

The students were transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice and charged with possession of a firearm on school property and unlicensed carry of a concealed firearm.
