Port St. Lucie - Wednesday December 4, 2023: Volunteers are needed to help with Operation Sacred Legacy, a joint effort by the Office of U.S. Congressman Brian Mast and Indian River State College (IRSC) to record oral histories of local veterans for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.

Training sessions are scheduled for January 12 and 13 at IRSC campuses in Stuart and Port St. Lucie.

More than 60,000 veterans reside on the Treasure Coast and in northern Palm Beach Counties, and others in the IRSC service district. IRSC has dedicated space to conduct the interviews at its Pruitt Campus Veterans Center of Excellence (VCE) in Port St. Lucie and at its Chastain Campus in Stuart. Veterans, volunteers, and staff will meet there monthly to record videos.

No prior experience is necessary to volunteer. However, you must be at least 16 years old and complete a two-hour training session.

Training sessions are scheduled for:

  • Thursday, January 12, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the IRSC Chastain Campus, Wolf High-Tech Center, Room C-101, 2400 S.E. Salerno Road, in Stuart
  • Friday, January 13, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Veterans Center of Excellence on the IRSC Pruitt Campus, 500 N.W. California Blvd., in Port St. Lucie
