Stuart - Friday January 6, 2023: A Fort Pierce woman has been arrested following unprovoked attacks on two shoppers in Martin County, one of whom was an elderly woman.
The first attack occurred outside the Best Buy Plaza at 2555 NW Federal Highway in Jensen Beach. The second attack happened across the street at Total Wine 2550 NW Federal Highway which is under the jurisdiction of the Martin County Sheriff's Office.
The attacks were caught on store security cameras and that prompted an aggressive search by Martin County Sheriff’s Detectives and Stuart Police which ended in the arrest of 33-year old Calene Gabriel Wednesday night.
Gabriel has been charged with Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Battery on a person 65 or older. She was confined at the Martin County Jail.
A release posted on the Martin County Sheriff's Facebook page includes a video, provided by Stuart Police, in which the Sheriff says Gabriel is seen pulling in behind the vehicle of one of the victims at the Best Buy Plaza in Jensen Beach, which is a city of Stuart’s jurisdiction. Deputies say she "viscously starts beating the women in an unprovoked attack." The victim in this case was seriously injured.
An hour later, the Sheriff says, Gabriel attacked a second person in the same manner at the shopping plaza across the street is MCSO’s jurisdiction.
