Okeechobee - Thursday January 12, 2023: Okeechobee County will be opening a warming center this weekend in anticipation of below freezing wind chill temperatures this weekend.
The warming center is at the Rite Life building on 202 NE 2nd Street, Suite 5, in Okeechobee.
The Center will open for the night at 5:30 p.m. Friday afternoon and again at 5:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Those in need are advised to bring their own bedding.
The National Weather Service in Melbourne has forecast a low of 39 Saturday morning with the wind chill making it feel like 33 degrees. Its expected to be even colder Sunday morning with a low of 36 and a wind chill of 32.
