Port St. Lucie invites residents to weigh in building impact fees and engineering standards

PORT ST. LUCIE — The City of Port St. Lucie will host a series of public workshops in July to gather input from residents and stakeholders on proposed updates to public building impact fees and engineering standards.

The workshops aim to give the public an opportunity to review and provide feedback on key revisions before a formal public hearing scheduled for August.

One set of workshops will focus on impact fees charged to new developments and redevelopment projects. These fees help fund the public infrastructure and services necessary to support growth, ensuring that taxpayers are not burdened with the costs of expanding city services. Officials say the fees are essential for maintaining the quality of life in Port St. Lucie as the population continues to grow.

Another set of workshops will address proposed updates to the city's engineering standards. These standards govern the design and construction of public infrastructure and utilities, promoting safety, efficiency and sustainability in future development.

The engineering standards workshops will be held Monday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to noon and again from 6 to 8 p.m. Both sessions will take place in person at City Hall in the City Council Chambers, located at 121 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd. A virtual option is also available for these sessions. Those who wish to attend virtually must register in advance at link.cityofpsl.com/eswreg. For questions, residents can call 772-871-5100.

The public building impact fees workshops will take place Tuesday, July 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., also at City Hall. These sessions will be held in person only. Questions regarding the impact fee meetings can be directed to the Planning and Zoning Department at 772-871-5213.

City officials encourage all interested residents, developers and community members to participate and help shape the city’s growth and infrastructure policies.
