Dunn's KIDS Foundation, a St. Lucie County-based organization dedicated to supporting local children, is still requesting school supply donations for its annual Backpack Giveaway.
"We are doing over 900 bags. We have the book bags ready. Now, we just have to fill them with the supplies," Howard Dunn Jr. said.
By the deadline of July 25th, the group is looking for fill each back pack with a set of supplies, including:
- Spiral notebooks
- Two-pocket folders
- Erasers
- Pencils
- Crayons
- Kid-friendly scissors
- Pens (blue and black)
- Paper packs
- Pencil sharpeners
- Rulers
- Highlighters
Currently, Dunn said the group is facing a shortage of donations in critical areas.
"The ones we need the most right now is spiral notebooks and the two-pocket folder," he said.
Dunn Jr. said they still need about 3000 of each to meet their donation goals of 5400.
Upon day of the giveaway, which is set for Aug. 1, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., backpacks will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis. Parents simply need to bring their children to 2203 Orange Ave. where they will be able to grab a bag for each child they accompany.
"There's no paperwork to fill," Dunn said.
