PORT ST. LUCIE — Job seekers in Port St. Lucie will have an opportunity Thursday to meet with nearly 80 employers and community organizations at a job fair hosted by CareerSource Research Coast.
The event is scheduled for Aug. 13 at the Mid-Florida Event Center. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. and the event will run until 6:30 p.m., with veterans able to enter at 3 p.m.
Mitch Kloorfain, marketing coordinator for CareerSource Research Coast, said participating organizations are looking to fill open positions and that applicants could have the opportunity to advance quickly through the hiring process.
"We've got close to 80 employers and community partners and these are all people that have expressed to us that they've got positions open. So they have positions they're looking to fill. We're hoping that they're going to come away with job interviews right on the premises and start making offers right there on property," he said.
The employers will represent a variety of industries, including local school districts, Costco and aerospace companies.
CareerSource staff will also be available throughout the event to help attendees navigate the job search and connect with potential employers.
"So they are there to answer any questions and to help navigate the path because the path to finding the job is sometimes a little muddled, especially if you've never done it before. So my team here at CareerSource is definitely going to be the ones to guide you," he said.
Job seekers who need professional clothing can also take advantage of a clothing closet provided by the city of Port St. Lucie. The collection includes items such as shoes, ties, purses, shirts, suit jackets and pants.
"They've got shoes and ties and purses and shirts and suit jackets and pants. So if you're being told to dress for success, now you can come to this clothing closet as early as 9 a.m. Come get a better shirt than the one you might have worn. Come get a better tie," he said. "It's all free. You just have to be registered for the job fair to accept any of their gifts."
Registration is not required to attend, but signing up in advance can speed up the check-in process.
"The big deal on the pre-registration, and you can still pre-register up until this evening, is that it kind of moves you ahead of the line. So they know who you are. They have your information and they can check you in quicker than just by walking in. If there's people ahead of you, you kind of move forward just because you thought about it ahead of time," he said.
